A local charity has appointed a new CEO to lead its outstanding care in the community.

Prospect Hospice has announced it has appointed experienced charity leader Jeremy Lune as its new chief executive, taking over the role in May from outgoing CEO Irene Watkins who has led the organisation for the last five years.

Upon his appointment, Jeremy said: “Prospect Hospice is an organisation that does incredible work, delivering palliative and end of life care to those who need it; work that is only going to become more important in the future. Everything that the hospice does is driven by the people in our community, which I find to be truly inspirational and I consider it a genuine privilege to be joining the organisation as it looks to the future.”

Jeremy knows the area well and has lived in Swindon for over 35 years. He’s worked in the charity sector for almost two decades and is also familiar with the hospice sector thanks to his experience as a trustee for another hospice in the south west.

Kevin Howard, chair of Prospect Hospice, said; “It was a highly competitive field and candidates were put through an intense interview process to find the person that was right to lead the charity though its new strategy and beyond. In Jeremy we’ve found someone who is more than suited to the role. He brings with him a wealth of charity experience but, above that, an understanding of what it takes to make a charity like ours work. He’s familiar with the area, is experienced in retail and income generation and, what impressed us most, was his consideration for the people that make Prospect Hospice what it is; our staff, volunteers, patients and community that supports our work.

“Jeremy will take over from our current chief executive later in the year and I would like to put on record my thanks, on behalf of the charity, to Irene who will shortly be leaving the role. She joined us at a pivotal time and worked incredibly hard with staff across the hospice to ensure our work is recognised as outstanding by the Care Quality Commission. Added to this she led us through the challenges of the pandemic ensuring staff were well supported in their roles and able to support our patients through such a difficult time.

“Irene has achieved great things for the charity and I thank her for her incredible hard work and dedication. In Jeremy, we have someone who will continue this work and lead the charity into a bright future.”

Jeremy will take up his role at Prospect Hospice in May and will be working with outgoing CEO Irene Watkins on a handover and induction over the next few months.
