Prospect Hospice is the leading provider of education and training for end-of-life care in Swindon and north Wiltshire. Working closely with you, our colleagues within partner organisations, we want to ensure that the very best care is available to everyone facing the end of life. This is why we provide education and development opportunities, all of which aim to encourage learning and build confidence in end of life care and support.
Brace yourselves for an exhilarating aquatic adventure. Embracing the spirit of camaraderie and determination, swimmers from across the region will gather for an unforgettable day of making waves, all in support of a local hospice.
Taking place on Saturday 5 August at 10.30am at the Bowmoor Sailing Club in Lechlade, the Prospect Hospice Big Swim Challenge is part of the Lechlade and Lions District Club’s fifth open water swimming event which promises to capture the hearts and imaginations of water enthusiasts, thrill-seekers and charity champions alike.
Swimmers of all skill levels are invited to take part in the 1km Big Swim; from novices dipping their toes in open waters for the first time to seasoned athletes seeking the ultimate challenge. Registration costs £25 and participants are asked to raise funds through sponsorship for Prospect Hospice so that the charity can continue to provide free, outstanding end of life care for people within the community.
The event will also be welcoming back a special guest, bronze Olympic medallist and acclaimed swimmer Cassie Patten, who will be hosting and sharing her expertise and passion for open water swimming.
“I am thrilled to be a part of the Prospect Big Swim Challenge,” Cassie shared. “As an Olympic open water swimmer, I have experienced first-hand the power of determination and community support. By joining this incredible event, I am not only supporting a cause close to my heart but also encouraging others to embrace their potential in open water swimming. I believe in the transformative impact of sport and its ability to bring people together.
“That’s why I am excited to offer a free introduction to open water swimming session to participants, to help them prepare for this memorable swim. This is including sighting technique tips, as well as technique pointers to assist the swimmers complete their swim more efficiently.”
