Prospect Hospice is the leading provider of education and training for end-of-life care in Swindon and north Wiltshire. Working closely with you, our colleagues within partner organisations, we want to ensure that the very best care is available to everyone facing the end of life. This is why we provide education and development opportunities, all of which aim to encourage learning and build confidence in end of life care and support.
Prospect Hospice is asking supporters to take part in The Big Give Christmas Challenge so they can care for more local people in the community living with life-limiting illnesses.
The charity is raising funds to open vital beds at its Inpatient unit at the hospice in Wroughton to support its patients’ needs and address waiting lists.
The Big Give Christmas Challenge runs from midday on Tuesday 28 November to midday on Tuesday 5 December and every donation made will be instantly doubled.
Jane Farmery, Inpatient team leader at Prospect Hospice said: “Although we want to help everyone who needs us, the reality at this time is that we simply don’t have enough funding to support everyone that needs the type of specialist care we can only offer at the hospice.
“We understand that times are difficult for many but with more beds open, our patients whose symptoms and pain management cannot be managed within their own home, can receive the specialist, round the clock care they require to support them during their final days.”
During The Big Give Christmas Challenge a donation of £30 would be doubled to £60, which would pay for an hour of a patient’s stay on the Inpatient unit. A donation of £55 would become £110, which would pay for a Health care assistant’s shift on the Inpatient unit. An extraordinary donation of £443.50 would become £887, which would cover the cost of a bed at the hospice for a whole day.
“Any donation, however big or small, made during The Big Give Christmas Challenge will be doubled so it will have twice the impact. By taking part you will help us to be there for more patients in Swindon and the surrounding area needing our care and support,” added Jane.
Donations must be made online at The Big Give Challenge website.
