Prospect Hospice’s annual Light up a Life remembrance service, scheduled for Sunday 8 December has been cancelled due to the severe weather forecast associated with Storm Darragh. The charity decided to prioritise the safety of attendees, staff, and volunteers.
Light up a Life is a cherished event in the community, offering an opportunity to come together to remember loved ones. The team at Prospect Hospice are exploring alternative options for the event and updates will be shared on their website and social media channels once plans have been finalised.
Additionally, the Book of Remembrance will be available for viewing at the hospice starting Monday 9 December, allowing individuals to pay their respects and reflect in a personal and meaningful way. Supporters are welcome to visit in the coming weeks and throughout 2025 to take a moment to reflect in a quiet and meaningful way.
Jeremy Lune, Prospect Hospice’s CEO, said: “The decision to cancel this year’s Light up a Life service was not made lightly. We recognise how much this event means to the community and understand the disappointment this may cause. However, the safety and well-being of everyone involved is our top priority. We appreciate the community’s understanding and patience as we navigate these challenging circumstances.”
While we won’t be able to gather in person, we invite you to light a candle at 4:30pm on Sunday in memory of your loved ones. If you feel comfortable, you are welcome to share a photo of your candle on social media using #LightUpALife, so we can create a virtual community of remembrance and support.”
The charity extends its thoughts to all those impacted by Storm Darragh and encourages everyone to stay safe during the adverse weather conditions.
