Melvin Camden, a local man diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, has just taken on an incredible challenge: abseiling down a cliff face! Despite living with only one lung, Melvin is determined to make the most of his time and raise funds for Prospect Hospice.
He said: “I wanted to raise money for Prospect Hospice, the charity that will provide care and support for me and my family when the time comes. Prospect Hospice is a fantastic charity, and I know they will be there for me and my family when we need them most. I hope that my abseil will inspire others to join me in supporting their vital work.”
Melvin has so far raised £650 for the hospice.
Melvin’s children, Nathan and Emma, set up a JustGiving page to support their father’s fundraising efforts. “We are incredibly proud of our dad for taking on this challenge,” says Nathan. “He is an inspiration to us all.”
Melvin’s family is determined to keep fundraising for Prospect Hospice: “We are taking part in the Swindon Half Marathon in September and this summer we are planning a virtual walk from Lands’ End to John ‘O Groats, which will end at the front of Prospect Hospice in Wroughton. Dad will be taking part at some point near the end as long as his chemotherapy goes well.”
Jeremy Lune. CEO from Prospect Hospice says: “Melvin’s story is a wonderful example of the incredible community spirit that surrounds the hospice. His courage and determination are an inspiration to us all. We are incredibly grateful for his support and for the support of everyone who has donated. Melvin’s adventure shows us all that life is there for living. We all need to be more Melvin!”
