Prospect Hospice is the leading provider of education and training for end-of-life care in Swindon and north Wiltshire. Working closely with you, our colleagues within partner organisations, we want to ensure that the very best care is available to everyone facing the end of life. This is why we provide education and development opportunities, all of which aim to encourage learning and build confidence in end of life care and support.
Could you help us raise money and make a real difference in your community? We’re looking for friendly and motivated individuals to join our lottery canvassing team. Hear firsthand from “Lotto Liz” about why this role is so fulfilling, and how you can enjoy great perks while supporting our vital work.
I love sharing Prospect’s story and talking about the amazing work we do; it makes me really proud.
“I was a teacher for 13 years, then I had various jobs after that but never really found anything I really enjoyed – until I found this job.”
Meet Jill. She’s one of our Prospect Hospice lottery fundraisers, a vital role within the hospice, responsible for engaging with our local community to raise awareness of what we do and also inspiring support. They spend their days out and about, speaking to people about the hospice’s work, and encouraging supporters to sign up for our lottery.
How did Jill end up talking to people outside Aldi about the work of the Hospice?
“I saw the role advertised, and I thought why not? I was a fundraiser when I left university, so this role has come full circle.
I love that every day is different, I go to new venues each week, I meet amazing people and I’m not at a computer all day, which I hated. I wake up, have a cuppa and head to a new venue, set up and crack on.
The role is so flexible, and because I’m dyslexic it’s perfect for me. I love sharing Prospect’s story and talking about the amazing work we do; it makes me really proud.
If someone is thinking about applying for the role of lottery fundraiser, I’d say go for it, give it a chance, see how you get on. It’s a really flexible role so perfect if you’re a carer, a student or just fancy doing something a bit different.
You do need resilience, and to be able to talk to people from all walks of life, and to be able to read people too! If you can tell someone is having a bad day, it’s probably a good idea not to stop them!
I find if people have time to stop and chat about the hospice they’ll usually sign up for the lottery and it’s such an easy, fun way to support us and the work we do in our community.
I’ve had a few friends who were cared for by hospices, so this work is really important to me. I really love the variety of the role, and as long as you don’t forget your thermals, it’s not like work at all!
