Prospect Hospice is the leading provider of education and training for end-of-life care in Swindon and north Wiltshire. Working closely with you, our colleagues within partner organisations, we want to ensure that the very best care is available to everyone facing the end of life. This is why we provide education and development opportunities, all of which aim to encourage learning and build confidence in end of life care and support.
Prospect Hospice supporter Ian Rumbold has galvanized more than 80 local golfers into raising £4,276.39 for the charity in memory of his dad.
Keen golfer Ian Rumbold organised a day’s golf at Bowood Golf and Country Club in memory of his dad, Stewart and the event was initially supported by his family and friends, but as word spread about the event, further support came from the wider community, resulting in 84 golfers teeing off in the autumn sunshine.
Ian had been talking with golf equipment suppliers Tony Valentines who offered their support in promoting the event, and they quickly sold out on the golf teams, and had to add four more teams to the day, with 84 golfers attending, over half of whom were complete strangers to one another.
Ian said: “Bowood Golf and Country Club supported the event fantastically with their function room, breakfast, a round of golf for everyone and a meal afterwards. The staff on the day and leading up to the event were incredibly helpful.
“I have been blown away by everyone’s support, including people that I did not know beforehand, and would like to thank every golfer for supporting the event and being so generous.”
He would like to say thank you to all staff at Tony Valentines for their support with advertisement and for the winner’s prizes and donations to the raffle. To Bowood for agreeing to support the event at the golf course, and to all family and friends who helped organise the event and supported on the day.
He would also like to thank, Ashley Ferris photography, Ryan Howson, the owner of Staysure Insurance who provided the top prize of a day’s golf with two European Senior Tour players, John Steele for offering his villa as another top prize for the silent auction, and Ryan Dix for providing promotional support.
Community fundraiser, Hollie Ricketts said: “On behalf of the hospice I would like to say thank you to Ian for this fantastic donation to the hospice and for choosing to support us with his charity golf day in memory of his dad. The incredible amount raised will help us to continue to provide end of life care to our local community. I would also like to extend my thanks to everyone who helped to make the day such a fantastic success and for supporting the event, it is greatly appreciated by us all.”
