Working closely with you, our colleagues within partner organisations, we want to ensure that the very best care is available to everyone facing the end of life. This is why we provide education and development opportunities, all of which aim to encourage learning and build confidence in end of life care and support.
A leaflet that informs businesses how to give to charity through their wages inspired a local Swindon company to volunteer and raise funds for Prospect Hospice.
Payroll Giving is used by many charities in the UK, and is a flexible scheme which allows anyone who pays UK income tax to give regularly and on a tax free basis to the charities and good causes of their choice. On 3 April 2019, AFL Telecommunications Europe, presented Prospect Hospice with a cheque for £460, awarded to the hospice as a result of an employee vote; those surveyed volunteered for AFL during the last financial year and nominated their preference from a choice of several local charities.
Fiona Hill, HR and EHS Advisor for AFL, said: “AFL Swindon is actively involved with Prospect Hospice by supporting with a number of fundraising activities throughout the year, including cake sales, Easter Egg collection, Christmas raffle fund donations, stock sorting at retail distribution centre, and the payroll giving scheme. We recognise the valuable work of Prospect Hospice to provide care and support in the community.”
“Without the support of our volunteers and organisations such as AFL Global, we just couldn’t provide the range and quality of services we do for our local community,” said corporate fundraiser Lisa Curtis. “It is so important to us that our volunteers know that they are making a vital contribution and are fulfilling their reasons for volunteering. Being voted for ‘best volunteering experience’ by the employees of AFL Global, out of all the volunteering opportunities worldwide, is such an honour and it means we are getting it right for those people who generously donate their precious time.
“We are genuinely thrilled to receive such an accolade and the cheque for £460. Through their fundraising activities and Payroll Giving, AFI have raised over £2,090 during 2018 into this year – to give you context, that amount of money will pay towards eight full night shifts from our Prospect@Home nurses, which gives huge reassurance that the patient is supported throughout the night, but also means their family can get some rest too. Our grateful thanks goes out to all the employees who voted and to AFL Global for all their support.”
