Prospect Hospice is the leading provider of education and training for end-of-life care in Swindon and north Wiltshire. Working closely with you, our colleagues within partner organisations, we want to ensure that the very best care is available to everyone facing the end of life. This is why we provide education and development opportunities, all of which aim to encourage learning and build confidence in end of life care and support.
Over 80 people joined the owners of the Cross Keys in Bradenstoke for their black tie casino and cabaret evening, raising £1,190 in aid of Prospect Hospice.
The pub owners, Simon Manners and Amanda Terry, decided to support Prospect Hospice after members of their community came forward with personal links to the services the hospice provides. Money was initially raised at their pub quiz before Simon and Amanda decided to extend their fundraising to July’s black tie event, which included casino style tables and live music provided by DJ Tony Evans and singer Laura Philips.
“Tony provided such great live music and many party guests were in awe of Laura’s voice,” said Amanda. “The pub and gardens were full to the brim with village residents and pub regulars who went the whole hog with their suits and gowns – they really dressed up to the nines. There was a definite buzz surrounding the night for weeks before and after the event.”
Brigitte Robertson, a palliative and holistic therapist who recently moved back to the village, provided a raffle and silent auction for the evening, sourcing all prizes from local businesses and residents, as well as providing a voucher from her own business, Hands on Therapy.
“We had everything from hedge trimmers, courtesy of Dominic Tye from Inex Property & Building maintenance services, to beauty products kindly donated by Boots,” said Brigitte. “It was all sourced in the week leading up to the event and I was so thrilled by the support we received. It helped raise so much for the palliative care the hospice provides.”
Simon and Amanda were happy to see so many people pass through their doors, having only reopened the pub in April this year. “The pub is the centre of the community in Bradenstoke and it was great to see so many people turn out and support the event,” said Simon. “Everyone seemed to have a great evening for such a good cause, and it’s certainly an evening that will not be forgotten in a long time.
“Amanda and I would like to say a huge thank you to our business partners, Kim Morgan and Shaun Outlaw, for their support; Brigitte Robertson for arranging and running the raffle and auction; Tony and Laura for the live music, and all of the local businesses and residents who supported and attended the Casino and Cabaret evening.”
Community fundraiser Hollie Ricketts added: “On behalf of us all at Prospect Hospice I would like to say a huge thank you to Simon and Amanda for holding the event in aid of the hospice; to Brigitte Robertson and everyone who helped make the Casino and Cabaret evening such a great success, and to all the local residents who chose to support us so generously on the night.”
The pub have since held a further quiz in aid of Prospect Hospice, bringing the total funds raised for the hospice to £1,225.
