Ten years ago, Kala and Kristy’s mum died at Prospect Hospice, Swindon. For her daughters the anniversary is bittersweet. Like most grieving families they cannot believe it’s been 10 years since they said goodbye to their mum, Becky for the final time. But it’s also a time of celebration, as this year the Becky Rowland Tribute Fund has surpassed a staggering £27,000 in donations.
These funds have been generously donated to Prospect Hospice, a local charity that provides tailored, end-of-life care services to local people and their families.
The Becky Rowland Tribute Fund was established in memory of Becky Rowland, a beloved member of the community who passed away in 2014. Her family and friends created the fund to honour her legacy and support the vital work of Prospect Hospice.
Over the years, the fund championed by Becky’s two daughters Kristy and Kala have organised numerous fundraising events and initiatives, including 10k races, half marathons, full marathons, tough mudders, triathlons and most recently a 100km run! This equates to a staggering 1600 miles – the equivalent of travelling from Wroughton to John O Groats and back again!
The generosity of the community has been instrumental in the success of the tribute fund and its ability to support the charity.
Becky’s daughters said: “The Prospect Hospice absolutely deserves every little bit of funding it can get – they provide wonderful care, and I honestly don’t know where we would be without them. We can’t believe it’s been 10 years since we lost mum, but channelling our energy into fundraising has really helped us through the grieving process.”
Prospect Hospice CEO Jeremy Lune is overwhelmed with the generosity. “We are incredibly grateful to Kala and Kristy. Their donations over the years are staggering. The support of our wonderful community is essential to our ability to provide compassionate end-of-life care to those in need – like Becky”.
Kala and Kristy would like to say a special thanks to their close family friend Charlie who has completed many challenges over the past 10 years raising thousands. Her most recent – walking 1,000 miles in 2024!
Prospect Hospice is a vital resource for the community, providing compassionate care to patients and their families during difficult times. The funds raised by the Becky Rowland Tribute Fund will help ensure that it can continue to offer their essential services to those in need.
