Thank you to all of you for your support with the backbench debate on hospice funding.
On Monday 22 April, MPs from across the country came together to talk about hospices like ours, and the extra funding we must secure to ensure the vital end-of-life care we deliver every day is not lost.
Some of the highlights in the debate that were raised included:
– The current hospice funding model is unpredictable and unsustainable, resulting in the future of the sector being uncertain. – There are significant variations in hospice funding levels in different areas which must be addressed. – Financial concerns are being made worse by inflationary pressures and rising demand. – The sector is on track for a deficit of £77million for the last financial year, the worst figures for two decades. This has led to some hospices having to reduce their services. – That end-of-life care needs to be seen as part of the healthcare system, not viewed separately.

You can also hear a summary of the debate from our CEO, Jeremy Lune speaking with Ben Prater on the BBC Radio Wiltshire Breakfast Show on Tuesday 23 April.
We were pleased to have the opportunity to share our story and our current financial situation with BBC Points West. Laura Jones sat down with our patient Robin Bailey, supporter Sinéad Nolan-Martin, and Jeremy Lune to discuss what our hospice means to them and the impact of insufficient funding. If you missed it, you can watch it below.
Jeremy also spoke with Planet Radio about the worrying reality Prospect Hospice, like all hospices in England, is facing. You can read the full interview here.
