Old Town Festival revival raises nearly £5,000 for local hospice

June 2024

Fundraising, News

The revival of the beloved Old Town Festival brought an electric atmosphere and vibrant excitement back to the heart of the community this year. After being a town fixture for more than 24 years, the festival was put on hold due to the global pandemic in 2020, but it has triumphantly returned, much to the delight of residents and visitors alike.

Organised by the Old Town Business Association, the festival made a grand comeback, promising more fun and excitement than ever before. The first day of the festival saw Town Gardens buzzing with live music, entertainment, rides, stalls, and even an appearance by Darth Vader himself. Highlights included a captivating performance by the Emily Dance Academy under the bandstand and the debut single release by local singer-songwriter Tildy.

Adding to the festival’s success, Prospect Hospice was named this year’s charity partner, raising nearly £5,000 and counting. This generous contribution will support the vital end-of-life care and support the charity offers to local people.

Jeremy Lune, CEO at Prospect Hospice, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Old Town Business Association and everyone who attended the festival for their generous support. The funds raised will make a significant difference in helping us continue to provide our vital services.”

The 2024 festival was split into three main parts: a family fun day in Town Gardens on Saturday 1 June, a street party in Wood Street on Sunday 2 June, and a series of fringe events until Sunday 9 June.
