It was an honour to meet her

Prospect Hospice was honoured to welcome Her Majesty The Queen to the hospice on Tuesday 21 January, 2025, to commemorate their 45th anniversary. The visit was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression on staff, volunteers, and guests alike.

“If we were to sum yesterday’s Royal visit up in one word, it would be wow!” said Jeremy Lune, Prospect Hospice CEO. “We are incredibly grateful to Her Majesty, our President, for such a wonderful and memorable day.

The hospice funding model isn’t fit for purpose, it’s got to change and for Queen Camilla to acknowledge that, is incredibly motivational for us.”

During her 60-minute visit The Queen met with staff, trustees, dignitaries, patients, patient families and enjoyed taking part in an education session, she said: “There aren’t nearly enough hospices in the country,” she also went on to praise the work of Prospect Hospice.

The Queen unveiled a commemorative plaque, marking the renaming of The Evans Education Centre (named after the hospice’ founder Derryck Evans), cut a cake to celebrate the hospice’s 45th anniversary, and signed the visitors’ book. She was also gifted a beautiful bouquet from two local children.

Christopher, a current patient at the hospice, met Her Majesty. He said, “It was an honour to meet her, and I am very lucky to have been offered a bed at the Prospect Hospice due to the hospice funding crisis.”
