Prospect Hospice Joins Forces for Dementia Action Week (May 13th-19th)
1 in 3 people in the UK living with dementia do not have a diagnosis and Prospect Hospice is proud to participate in Dementia Action Week, a national campaign taking place from Monday 13 May to Sunday 19 May, 2024. This annual initiative unites communities across the country to raise awareness of dementia and empower individuals to take action.
With an estimated 900,000 people in the UK currently living with dementia, a figure projected to rise significantly (Alzheimer’s Society), Prospect Hospice recognises the growing need for comprehensive support. Our dedicated Dementia Working Group, made up of experienced nurses and an occupational therapist, is committed to providing the highest quality care for patients with dementia and their families in our local area.
Working Towards a Brighter Future
Kathryn Jones, an Occupational Therapist at Prospect Hospice has high hopes for the working party, ‘The Prospect Hospice Dementia Working Group strives to ensure patients receive appropriate support, both within the hospice and at home.
By adopting open communication and collaboration, we aim to continuously improve dementia care services within the hospice and the wider community.’
Empowering Choice and Comfort
Prospect Hospice actively encourages individuals with dementia and their loved ones to engage in advance care planning. This process empowers patients to express their wishes and ensure their end-of-life care reflects their values.
Kathryn continues, ‘Ultimately, we believe prioritising what matters most to our patients is key to delivering truly person-centered care.’
