Role: Corporate Group Liaison Volunteer

Responsible to: Voluntary Services Recruitment and Operations Officer

Accountable to: Head of Volunteering, Learning and Inclusion

Hours: Maximum of 2-3 hours per week, preferably split into two sessions per week

Prospect Hospice’s vision is of a community where death is no longer a taboo, and everyone lives and dies well. We provide excellent, personalised, and compassionate care for everyone in our community who is affected by a life-limiting illness.

We work in close partnership with other organisations – and specifically with local health and social care professionals – to ensure that anyone can access the best possible care whenever and wherever they need it, and we do so completely free of charge.

Our work is supported by a large group of volunteers, some of whom come to us on corporate volunteering days for one-off sessions with the support of their employers.

Description of role:

The Corporate Group Liaison Volunteer will host corporate groups on behalf of the hospice, welcoming them, providing a short introduction to our objectives and values, a health and safety briefing, and an outline of how participants can continue to support the hospice after their volunteering involvement. Once this has all been delivered, you will accompany them to the venue where they will be volunteering for the day and introduce them to the person overseeing their activities.

Role Responsibilities:

You will need to be in regular contact (in-person or via telephone, Whatsapp or email) with the voluntary services team so that your corporate liaison sessions can be arranged. Some of the activities you will be involved in include:

  • Familiarising yourself with the informal welcome ‘script’ for corporate volunteer groups so that you can ensure a consistent, high quality welcome and briefing.
  • Familiarising yourself with the key points of a short health and safety briefing so you can deliver it to each group.
  • Familiarising yourself with any upcoming community or fundraising events so that you can encourage volunteers to get involved on an ongoing basis after their initial corporate volunteering session has come to an end.
  • Encouraging corporate volunteers to follow the hospice on social media and like and share media posts.
  • Seeking and passing on feedback from corporate volunteering groups to the voluntary services team.

We generally run up to four corporate volunteering sessions per week, currently two in the distribution centre and two in the hospice gardens. You will not be expected to attend all four, but any help you can provide would be welcomed.

Everyone at Prospect Hospice works to a set of core values – we are authentic, specialist, person-centred, inclusive, resilient and pursue excellence.

How we bring our values to life everyday:

  • We take responsibility for our actions and behaviour, always being our authentic selves whilst being professional, welcoming, and caring to our colleagues and customers.
  • We are experts educating, training, sharing our knowledge and influencing others. As an Ambassador of Prospect Hospice, we promote our services in the local community.
  • We act with empathy, striving to listen to and understand others.
  • We work together as a team and a community by being approachable and non-judgemental.
  • We excel in delivering the best service, always seeking to improve and learn new skills.

Keeping you safe:

Every volunteer role is risk assessed to ensure you and the people you come into contact with are kept safe, and you should familiarise yourself with the risk assessment for your specific role before undertaking activities. Alongside this, you’ll have mandatory training you’ll need to complete before fully starting your new role. Your safety and wellbeing is important to us, and we ask that you let us know if anything doesn’t feel right at any time.

In some roles you may be given a uniform you’ll need to wear, but we will make sure we let you know about that before you join the team.

Additionally, you can claim out of pocket expenses incurred traveling to your location. The person overseeing your role will be able to talk you through how to do this.

For concerns relating to your volunteering experience, the Voluntary Services team are always available.
